Coming to the Father Through Jesus

A KJV devotional on John 14:6, considering Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life in the context of His comfort to His disciples.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 14:6 KJV

In John 14, Jesus is speaking to disciples troubled by His coming departure. Thomas asks how they can know the way when they do not know where He is going. Jesus answers by directing their trust to Himself. The way to the Father is not presented as a map they must master alone.

Jesus names Himself as the way, the truth, and the life. These words belong together: He brings us to the Father, makes God known, and is the source of the life we need. The final part of the verse makes His claim unmistakable. Access to the Father is through Him, not through our own achievement.

Receive this teaching with humility rather than pride. Our confidence is in Christ, not in being better than someone else. If you feel uncertain about approaching God, begin by turning to Jesus in prayer and listening to His words in this chapter. We can bear witness to His claim with conviction and treat those who have questions with patience and love.
