Hope Rooted in God
Find encouragement in Romans 15:13, quoted in the King James Version, with a devotional about hope, believing, and the work of the Holy Ghost.
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Paul's prayer begins with the God of hope, not with an instruction to predict a happier outcome. Christian hope rests in God's faithfulness. We can turn to Him without knowing how tomorrow's circumstances will unfold.
Joy and peace in this prayer are joined to believing, and abundant hope is attributed to the power of the Holy Ghost. Hope is not something we must force out of an empty heart. We may ask God to work in us where disappointment has made trust difficult.
If hope feels small today, make this passage the starting point of your prayer. Tell God where discouragement has settled. Remember one way He has sustained you, and consider one person you can encourage without pretending to have all the answers. A quiet act of love can be faithful even while you are still waiting.
