Forgiven and Learning to Forgive
Explore Ephesians 4:32 and 1 John 1:9 in the KJV, with a devotional on honest confession, God's forgiveness, and extending kindness to others.
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
God's forgiveness gives us a place to begin honestly. First John calls us to confess our sins rather than hide or excuse them. The assurance rests in God's faithfulness and justice, not in our ability to make ourselves worthy of His mercy.
Paul connects the way we treat one another with the forgiveness God has given for Christ's sake. Kindness and a tender heart are not small matters. They are daily ways of refusing to let resentment direct every word and response.
Forgiveness does not require calling harm good, abandoning wise boundaries, or returning to an unsafe situation. Rebuilding trust may take time and accountability. Ask God to show you where confession is needed in your own life and where bitterness needs His care. Begin with the honest prayer or responsible conversation that is yours to offer today.
